About
Fin McDowell is a singer songwriter from Calgary, Alberta. She accompanies her beautiful vocals with piano and sometimes guitar, bringing a unique and emotionally vulnerable connection.
From a very early age, Fin McDowell had a connection to music that was undeniable. Her parents tell her that she was singing songs before she could speak. With musical influences running the gamut from folk, Christian contemporary, country, celtic, to pop, a beautiful style emerged. Over time Fin would derive her own authentic voice and style. Her writing is inspired by an eclectic group of artists like Imogen Heap, John Mayer, Yebba, Lizzy McAlpine, and Sara Bareilles. Her own writing style that shines through in intelligent, experience driven, authentic lyrics paired with guitar or keys offering listeners introspection in an age of separation.
Her debut single, Losing Game, exemplifies her style with its engaging lyrics and goosebump inducing bridge and chorus. Written at the beginning of the pandemic, the song is a representation of emotions of self-doubt and inadequacy but also a resolution to overcoming these emotions. Losing Game introduced Fin to a new worldwide audience as it has been heard by many on radio and Spotify. Her second song, People I Barely Knew, is a story of betrayal of trust and a realization that emotions can skew our perspective of reality. When the rose coloured glasses are removed the disappointment in the intentions of others and a sense of wasted time and feelings looms. Fin’s latest release, “The Feeling”, promises to once engage listeners in “the feels” as a moody yet hopeful anthem for those wrestling with their own mental health issues, the loss of a relationship, or any departure from old ways to new.
In 2021 and 2022 when Covid restrictions allowed, Fin was invited to perform at a number of stages throughout Western Canada with talented performers like JJ Shiplett, The Static Shift, and Reuben and the Dark. She was proud to be invited to showcase her talents at Canadian Music Week in Toronto in June, 2022.
