Cayo Santana is a Canadian citizen and percussionist originally from Salvador, Bahia - the cultural heartbeat of Brazil. With over 20 years of experience in the Brazilian drumming and dance scene. Cayo has dedicated his life to preserving and sharing the power of Afro-Brazilian music and culture with the world. Rooted in the vibrant rhythms of Samba, Samba-reggae, Axé, and Afro Brazilian traditions, Cayo began his musical journey in the streets and community centers of Salvador, where drumming is not only music but resistance, joy, and identity. His passion for rhythm and community inspired the creation of Samba Swing Brazilian Academy - a cultural project that offers an immersive and authentic Brazilian experience through music, dance, and arts education. Cayo has taught over 400 students worldwide, offering workshops and classes to people of all ages and backgrounds. His international impact includes leading Brazilian drumming workshops in Portugal, Germany and Sweden, where he brought the energy and soul of Salvador to European audiences. In Canada, he continues to grow a vibrant community through drumming circles, live performances, and cultural events, especially in Calgary, where Samba Swing is now based. Through Samba Swing, Cayo's mission is to celebrate Afro-Brazilian culture, promote community connection, and empower people through rhythm, movement, and cultural expression. His work blends tradition with innovation, creating a space where music becomes a universal language of joy, resistance, and unity.
