About the event
Based in Calgary, Alberta, “ABEND.” is a newly established series of events with a focus on experimental music and arts. We are honored to kick off our series with a show that unveils an upcoming collaboration between the Canadian festival Sled Island and the Iranian festival SET.
Here’s some information about the mentioned collaboration and the upcoming show:
----------------------------------------
Sled Island: “We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Iranian artist-run festival SET Experimental Art Events, who has curated a selection of some of the most exciting electronic and experimental musicians from Iran and its diaspora, to perform at this year’s festival.
The project, titled SLED X SET, is the beginning of what we hope to be an ongoing collaboration meant to build relationships between the Iranian and Canadian artistic scenes, and give our audience access to even more unique and boundary-pushing performances.
As a preview of what to expect, we encourage you to check out this upcoming show at one of our newest venues, Loophole Coffee Bar, featuring Iranian acts 9T Antiope and Idlefon and Canadian act S. Wurm, on March 25th.”
----------------------------------------
9T Antiope is a duo composed of Paris-based Iranian musicians Nima Aghiani and Sara Bigdeli Shamloo. The main focus of the band is on experimental music, using layers of acoustic
instruments, electronics and combining them with vocals and lyrics, in order to narrate tiny bits or huge landscapes of the chaotic worlds they vision, along with their inhabitants. They've had releases on multiple labels such as PTP (Purple Tape Pedigree), Eilean Rec., Hallow Ground, Flaming Pines, Unperceived Records and an upcoming project on American Dreams.
From their performances, a few are: Présences Électronique - Paris (2021)/ Tehran Contemporary Sounds - Berlin (2021) - Sonic Acts - Amsterdam (2019)/ CTM Festival - Berlin (2019)/ SETxCTM Festival 2018 - Tehran (2018)/ Mutek Festival - Barcelona (2018)/ CTM Festival - Berlin (2017)/ Fuchsbau Festival - Hanover (2017).

Idlefon is Hesam Ohadi (b. 1987 in Tehran), an Iranian Canadian computer musician and sound artist based in Calgary, Canada.
They began creating electronic music in 2006 after experimenting with various music styles as a drummer. Idlefon's works can mainly be associated with the broad spectrum of modern visceral ambient, fusing muted elements of IDM and glitch into each work's vastness. Their output has often been influenced by daily existence in the urban center of Tehran and later on by the natural beauty of their home province Alberta. Ohadi has previously released Idlefon's music on Tympanik Audio; as of 2021, Ohadi has found a home for their output with the Oakland-based emotive experimental label n5MD.
They are also one of the co-founders and runners of the experimental art label BITROT and the music festival SET.
----------------------------------------
S. Wurm gardens many disparate, sometimes diametric sound worlds. Composted melodies reek under trellises of frenetic digital trance, dredged low-quality voice memos rust in colloidal harsh-noise modality. S. Wurm is a romantic, alchemical, genre-abhorring growth medium utilizing recycling/composting, defamiliarization, and chance operations to nurture and love the internal lives and deaths of the works themselves. S. Wurm is currently based in rural Treaty 8 Territory, in the Demmitt valley.
