Emét
About the artist
“Emét is an Irish indie-folk artist with influences ranging from Phoebe Bridgers and Hozier to Orville Peck.”
Hailed as indie-folk’s travelling troubadour by the National Music Centre, Emét (Emmét McGonagle) has embraced Alberta’s country music flair with their latest single Alone Together - an acoustic lament for a less-than-healthy relationship and the bruises left along the way.
Following from last year’s debut LP Carlin’s Farm - which ranked in Chordblossom’s top 25 Northern Irish albums of 2022, the single comes as the third single from sophomore project Your Best Marionette.
Alone Together takes melodic influence from Big Thief and Orville Peck, alongside Leonard Cohen-esque lashings of romantic complacency and catharsis which earned the artist a finalist spot in the acclaimed International Songwriting Competition in 2022.
“They’re making some fabulous tunes right now and you should definitely check them out” – Kennady Quille, KEXP
"Emét’s folk sound is honest and candid, familiar and refreshing: reminiscent of Hozier and Vance Joy’s debut records, Carlin’s Farm carries the folk torch forward while honouring those who came before” - Atwood Magazine
“When you speak the truth people will have no choice but to fall in love with what you’re saying, and I believe every word out of this person’s mouth” - Dig With It
“Carlin’s Farm is a confident and cohesive release and the culmination of their flowering talents. There’s more than a hint of bohemian finesse in a collection of songs that flow into each other, with musical and even lyrical links from one song to the next.” - Chordblossom
