About the event
Lorna MacLachlan (piano/voice) has been a vital part of Calgary’s music community for decades as a composer, performer, arranger, and educator. With a graduate degree in Composition and Theory, she has created award-winning original music for theatre, dance, CBC, Access Network, and a wide range of artistic and commercial projects. She has recorded five full-length albums of original music and has received support from FACTOR, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, and the Canada Council for the Arts. Much of her current focus is on composing and performing with her quintet, where she blends her classical training with her love of jazz and contemporary styles. Known for her thoughtful writing, infectious melodies, and dedication to ensemble interplay, she continues to expand her voice as both composer and performer. Beyond the stage, Lorna has been nationally recognized for her commitment to music education. She has taught privately and within both public and private school systems, directing bands, jazz ensembles, choirs, and jazz choirs. Many of her students have gone on to professional careers in music, studying at some of North America’s most prestigious institutions. Band members Lorna MacLachlan (piano/voice) Richard Harding (saxophone) Jon McCaslin (drums) Jeremy Coates (bass) David Lavoie (guitar/trumpet)
